The ex-president was convicted of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments emerged.
This encompassed attempting to break his ankle monitor and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a potential flight.
Court Filing Details Flight Fears
In a paperwork permitting the detention, the magistrate said information from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.
This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his child.
His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a gathering of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.
The senator wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Will you battle for your country, or observe everything from your phone there on your settee? I invite you to struggle with us."
He said the vigil would be so backers could "pray for his well-being and for the return of democracy in our nation."
Diplomatic Refuge Fears
Part of the judge's decision was the possibility of his move to embassies near the residence, considering that the inquiries revealed a history of arranging to ask for protection through a diplomatic representation", a statement said.
The court filing highlights that the US embassy in the national capital, Brasilia, is positioned around 13km from Bolsonaro's home.
International Reactions
His judicial problems have generated frustration from fellow right-wing populist United States President Trump, leading him to implement a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.
He is being detained in a federal law enforcement building in Brasilia and will experience a custody hearing on the next day.
Latest Court Petitions
It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to authorize him to serve his whole jail sentence under house arrest, with tracking devices.
