Cars in German Town Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were notified by a individual who found a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior official commented the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
